About your Shoot

1.Pick Your Package

Once you have chosen your package, you'll be provided with a location guide to select your favourite shoot location. We will then choose a date and time for your shoot based on the location choice.

2.Booking Your Shoot

You'll receive an email with a photoshoot agreement, a pre-shoot questionnaire and an invoice. All three of these are required to secure your chosen photoshoot date. All shoot dates are held until the due date on your invoice (unless an alternate due date has been arranged via email).

3.Photoshoot Time

This is the fun part! The part where we get to create some special memories. You'll receive pre-shoot information a day prior to the booked shoot date.

4.Receiving  Your Photos

You will receive a preview gallery where you can select your favourite photos and purchase any extras you love! You'll then receive your final gallery via email. I aim to get your photos edited as soon as possible, but turnaround time is approximately 6-8 weeks.

FAQ

What if it is raining on the day of my shoot?

If the weather is not suitable on the day of your shoot, you will be able to reschedule to another day at no extra cost. Shoots are rescheduled due to rain, extreme heat (35°+, with temperatures between 30°- 35° assessed based on location choice) and extreme wind. You will be given at least 1 hour notice that your shoot needs to be rescheduled. If there has been a significant amount of rain leading up to the shoot date, your shoot may need to be rescheduled due to the grounds being unsuitable for a photoshoot e.g. too muddy at a chosen park location or the seas are too rough at a chosen beach location.

If Photography by Sharnee deems the weather (or location grounds) unsuitable to go ahead with the scheduled shoot, we will reschedule to a new date at the earliest convenience for both the client and photographer. All weather related reschedules are made by Photography by Sharnee.

We do not reschedule solely for overcast weather, as long as the rain holds off we can still shoot. Whilst I can't guarantee the perfect sunrise/sunset, I can assure you that your photos will still be beautiful, even in overcast weather!

What is the difference between a pet shoot & a family shoot?

Pet photoshoots are focused on your dog! During a pet shoot, your pooch will be the star of the show! All pet photoshoot packages can include a couple of 'pets and their people' photos, but the shoot is focused on your dog.

A family photoshoot is focused on the human family members. Your family will be photographed in a way that captures your special bond. Of course, pets are a part of the family too so you are welcome to bring your dog (providing the chosen location is dog friendly) to be in some photos, but the shoot will be focused on your human family members.

What time will my photoshoot be?

Photoshoots are best suited to early morning (sunrise) or late afternoon (just before sunset). This is because the light is much nicer at these times, there are fewer distractions (other people and dogs) and it's not as hot during Summer months. Your location choice will also determine the time of day for your shoot as each location suits something different to ensure the best results possible.

I do not shoot during the middle of the day.

Can I have my photoshoot at home?

Unfortunately, I do not offer in-home photo sessions. I have a number of locations that are suitable for dogs with health conditions and reactive dogs.

If you have a puppy under 3 months old who isn't fully vaccinated, it is recommended to wait two weeks after their final puppy vaccination to book a location photoshoot.

What if my dog can't be off lead in public?

That is not a problem! Photoshoots can be done with your dog on-lead for the whole photoshoot. It actually helps having them on lead in many scenarios!

Arrive at your photoshoot with a standard collar and lead. I can edit out leads, but not harnesses & collars. You can bring a harness to walk around the location, but harnesses must be taken off if you don't want them in your final photos. Choose your collar carefully as it may be visible in the photos. Avoid collars with your phone number embroidered onto them as phone numbers cannot be edited off the collar.

The majority of my location options are on-lead areas so dogs are required to be on lead, regardless of their level of recall and training.

It is also recommended to bring a long line for some action photos as this gives your dog a little more freedom to run.

I had a different location in mind?

If you have an alternate location (that is not in my guide), please send me the exact spot (street name, access points, etc) and some photos and I will be happy to check it out. I will do my best to get your chosen location, but please understand not all locations are suitable for a photoshoot, especially with dogs. I must deem the location suitable for the photoshoot.

Can I have my photos printed?

Yes! Check out my information on having your photos printed here.

Do you work with reactive & anxious dogs?

Yes - I work with dogs who are reactive to other dogs. I have a number of locations to suit reactive dogs. I also have a number of locations to suit dogs who are anxious in new environments. Weekday photoshoots are highly recommended for reactive and anxious dogs they generally aren't as busy as weekends.

Don't worry if your dog doesn't like strangers in their space - I use a long lens which means I am a fair distance back from your dog during the shoot.

Due to safety reasons, I cannot work with dogs who are aggressive.

How far in advance should I book?

Spring & Summer book out much faster due to the warm weather. Weekends are also popular at the locations that have weekend availability.

I would recommend booking about 4 weeks in advance during Autumn & Winter. For Spring & Summer, I would recommend booking about 6 weeks in advance.

I will always do my best to fit you in, however, it is recommended to book in advance if you are wanting a specific date.

How long do you hold dates for/How long do I have to pay?

Once we have agreed on a location, date, and time, you will receive a photoshoot agreement, an invoice, and a pre-shoot questionnaire. These three things must be completed within 72 hours of being sent to secure and confirm your photoshoot date and time. Photoshoot dates are held until the due date, and a reminder will be sent if they are not completed beforehand.Unless an alternative payment date has been arranged via email, your date may be released to the next client in line if the agreement, pre-shoot questionnaire, and invoice are not completed by the due date.

If you have requested a payment extension, the photoshoot agreement and pre-shoot questionnaire still need to be completed by the original due date. Payment will then be due on the agreed extended date. If payment is not received (without prior communication) by the extended due date, the photography agreement may be cancelled, and the date released to the next client.

Outfit recommendations

Below are some examples of great outfits in terms of colours! Neutral colours are highly recommended for so many reasons! The more coordinated your family’s outfits are, the better your photos will look!

1. Blue Denim & white

This is an example of a blue denim colour palette. These colours work well with all skin tones and complements all location choices.

2. Earthy/Neutral

This is an example of an earthy/neutral colour palette. These colours complement all skin tones and all location choices. If you choose this option, try to stick with the same shades across the family.

Here are some great outfit examples:

Outfits I don't Recommend:

  • Bright coloured clothing - bright colours can create colour casts on your face and/or dog. Sometimes bright colours clash with location choice.
  • Clothing that has big & bold patterns & clothing that has big logos. If everyone wears clothing with a different pattern and logo, it becomes too overpowering and very distracting.
  • Puffer jackets & vests. These are not the best outfit choice for photos.
  • Avoid black if you have booked a pet photoshoot (or bringing your dog to a family shoot), as black clothing will really show the dog fur on your clothes.

Other helpful tips:

  • If the whole family is coming to the shoot, the more you all match your outfits (in terms of colour palette), the better your photos will turn out!
  • Prior to the shoot, try on your outfit and get a friend or family member to take some photos of you on your phone while sitting and standing to make sure you are 100% comfortable in your outfit choice!
  • Comfortable footwear! We often do a lot of walking, so ensure you wear comfy shoes... but also shoes that match the location. e.g. sandals at the beach or sneakers at the park. Again, if the whole family is coming along, try and keep the style of shoes matching!

Makeup

Makeup is totally optional for photoshoots, if you choose to wear makeup to your shoot, here are some tips:

  • Neutral coloured makeup - browns & soft pinks. Natural makeup application is best for photos!
  • Avoid bold colours. Also avoid wearing highlighter as it can be reflective/too shiny in photos.

Hair

  • It is recommended to style your hair so that it is pulled back off your face, especially for young kids.
  • If it is a windy day, it is recommended to style your hair so that it won't constantly be in your eyes and face.
